After 34 weeks of learning, both online and through practical work experience, 12 young Aitutaki men and women graduated from Te Rito o Araura programme under the Cook Islands Trades Training Institute (CITTI).

CITTI Aitutaki tutors Junior Tamati and Shelley Tavai proudly presented the young Aitutaki students with certificates of completion in their various studies.

Tavai says the programme was run over 34 weeks and included computing, media studies, and an elected trade-career subject to study online.

“We have had a wonderful successful year and our students have achieved certification in their subjects and also with GCF computing modules,” says Tavai.

The students also gained

on-site work experience and many of them have since gained either full or part-time employment.

“We had 12 students successfully graduate from the programme (completing the full 34 weeks),” says Tavai.

“However several students left prior to completion as they gained employment.

“In particular we had two graduates with the Cook Island Police and they are both working in Rarotonga.”

Next year two courses will be on offer for people living in Aitutaki.

One will be for school leavers in the Diploma in Foundation of Tertiary Studies.

A Diploma in Tertiary Studies is aimed at students who will be enrolling in online learning modules to achieve a certified qualification in their chosen subject area such as the NZQA-accredited Teacher Aide course or University of the South Pacific-accredited distant learning courses.

It was a great day of celebration for the Aitutaki students, who were praised for their hard work at the graduation function on Sunday.
