The Sewing Programme is designed for beginners who wish to develop practical sewing skills and build confidence in garment construction and textile crafts. Through hands-on learning and guided instruction, learners will gain a strong foundation in sewing techniques, fabric handling, pattern use, and machine operation. Students will have the opportunity to create a variety of projects, including shirts, dresses, and underwear, while developing essential skills in measuring, cutting, assembling, and finishing garments.
The programme also introduces learners to the art of creating machine-sewn tivaevae, providing an opportunity to learn and appreciate an important aspect of Cook Islands cultural expression. By the end of the course, students will have developed practical sewing skills, increased creativity, and the confidence to undertake their own sewing projects for personal, cultural, or entrepreneurial purposes.
This course is ideal for beginners with little or no sewing experience who are interested in learning practical sewing and garment-making skills. It is suitable for individuals who want to create their own clothing, learn how to use a sewing machine with confidence, or develop their creativity through textile and craft projects. The course is also well suited to those interested in learning how to make shirts, dresses, underwear, and machine-sewn tivaevae, as well as anyone wishing to preserve and build upon traditional sewing skills. Whether for personal enjoyment, family use, cultural enrichment, or future small business opportunities, this course provides a supportive environment for learners of all backgrounds to develop valuable and rewarding skills.
