Mangaia Island welcomes their Island Learning Broker, Anaseini Pokino this month.

The new position was initiated under the Cook Islands Tertiary Strategy titled ‘A Strategy for Skill development’ launched by the Cook Island’s Tertiary Institute (CITTI) at the Ngatagiia administration office last year.

The gist of this role is to make the connections for a learner to bridge the gap between those with knowledge and those wanting to learn.

Learning brokers, make possible the delivery of education and training customised to meet the needs of each island.

Similar roles have been established in Aitutaki and Pukapuka.

“I am both excited and enthusiastic about the benefits and challenges this position will bring to support on-going development in Mangaia,” says Pokino.

She adds “although my role as a broker will involve a lot of mobility – in coordinating course/programmes. It is important that a focal point (office) is available where tutors and students alike can refer to for support and administrative purposes.”

Mangaia has just launched its Island Puna plan and has a healthy vibrant working community. This will definitely support the collaborative approach to establishing an educated community – working alongside the work already done by Mangaia College with programmes being taken from USP and other tertiary providers.
